Grand Rapids Black Friday Deals

Holiday offers from Grand Rapids, Wyoming and Kentwood businesses, collected for West Michigan shoppers as they go live.

Beer City and the 28th Street corridor

Grand Rapids is the second-largest city in Michigan, named for the rapids of the Grand River that runs through downtown. Online polls named it Beer City USA in 2012 and 2013, and the region counts more than 100 breweries and cider makers. Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park covers 158 acres, and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum stands on the west bank of the river.

Wyoming grew up along 28th Street, a commercial strip once nicknamed the Miracle Mile, where the first enclosed shopping mall in Michigan opened in 1961. Kentwood, southeast of the city, is one of the most culturally diverse communities in the state, and its food scene includes Bosnian and Balkan restaurants and international markets.
